Why We Spend So Much on Botox

These days we live in a world where external appearances seem to create first impressions. We all wish to look younger than we are, and are willing to go to great lengths to regain our youth. Botox is one such way to help rejuvenate the skin and get rid of those horrible lines and wrinkles, and armed with this knowledge people all over the world seem to be getting botox injections to their face almost regularly now!

In the past, improving one’s appearance was all about getting some form of plastic surgery that actually involved one to go under the knife. Procedures would take hours to perform and weeks to heal. It would even take months before any sort of effect showed. But that era has now started to fade away, thanks to botox. In a report that was published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2012, there was a marked increase in the use of minimally invasive cosmetic procedures such as botox injection, while there was a decline in the total number of cosmetic surgeries performed.

The reason?

Well, for the middle class Jane Doe, botox injections can still bring out the beauty in them without emptying the bank account. Complex cosmetic surgeries are just too expensive these days, and it comes as no surprise that the cheaper, safe and extremely effective botox injections are becoming more and more popular.

However, it does appear that the entire ‘botox culture’ seems to have been taken on by members of a more affluent society. Celebrity papers have an article almost every day about some celebrity who has undergone botox.

But why is it that botox is so popular?

There is no doubt that botox has pretty much taken the world of cosmetic surgery by storm. The ease of administration, the absence of in-hospital stay for the procedure, its effects and its low cost make it an attractive option when it comes to treating fine lines and wrinkles. Its applications have these days extended well beyond just facial cosmetics, being now utilised in treating muscle spasm disorders such as blepharospasm and spastic paraplegias.

The effects can last for months and are obvious and recognisable. It has a positive effect on the confidence of the person, and there is a high chance that they would recommend it to a friend or family member.

With such advantages, it should not be surprising to hear that botox injection have now become part and parcel of our daily culture, boosting the confidence of millions and bringing out their inner glow!
