Botox® Injection Training Frequently Asked Questions

Why attend Botox® Training with the IAPAM Aesthetic Medicine Symposium?
The IAPAM’s Aesthetic Medicine Symposium is led by five board-certified cosmetic dermatologists—not equipment distributors or consultants—ensuring you receive top-quality, unbiased training. You’ll learn in a real medical facility, not a hotel room, so your injection experience matches real practice. The program provides everything you need to start offering aesthetic and Botox® procedures immediately, plus ongoing support through one year of phone/email assistance and access to exclusive member networking groups.

Focusing solely on Botox® may limit your profitability in today’s competitive market. The Symposium teaches you not only expert Botox® techniques (with most of a day dedicated to Botulinum Toxins like Xeomin®, Dysport®, and Botox®), but also covers other highly profitable aesthetic procedures with low startup costs. You’ll learn from experienced faculty how to build a successful, well-rounded aesthetic practice. Read more here.

We host the Symposium in Scottsdale so you can train directly with board-certified dermatologists and tour a successful medical spa practice. All hands-on Botox® injection training takes place in a real medical facility—not a hotel room—aligning with FDA recommendations. Attendees consistently rate the experience as well worth the time and investment.
What sets IAPAM’s Botox® training apart is that you’ll learn from true experts: we are the only aesthetic medicine training program with three board-certified cosmetic dermatologists on our teaching faculty, all of whom are proudly listed on our website. Your hands-on cosmetic injectable training (including Xeomin®, Dysport®, and Botox®) takes place in a real medical spa or clinic setting—not a hotel room. You’ll also enjoy a guided tour of a successful aesthetic practice, offering valuable insight into how to integrate aesthetics into your own medical practice or launch a standalone medical spa. Our comprehensive curriculum equips you with everything you need to succeed, covering the four essential areas of aesthetic medicine: cosmetic injectables, laser and light treatments, skin care (such as cosmeceuticals and chemical peels), and business skills. This well-rounded approach ensures you’re prepared for lasting success in the industry.

The IAPAM (International Association for Physicians in Aesthetic Medicine) provides a comprehensive suite of benefits to help both new and experienced medical professionals thrive in the fields of aesthetic medicine and medical weight management. Members gain exclusive access to extensive educational resources—including procedural articles, videos, and an online database—as well as business training and unlimited clinical support. The organization also offers up to 33.5 AMA PRA CME credits at its Aesthetic Medicine Symposium and ongoing practice management guidance to help members launch and grow successful practices with confidence.

In addition to education, members receive significant discounts on equipment (such as lasers and EMR software), special pricing on clinical training, and unique tools for their practices, like weight management patient kits and marketing materials. Membership starts at $295 per year, a cost that is easily offset by the savings and business value provided. Eligible members include physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and dentists in good standing. The IAPAM community also offers robust networking opportunities and recognition tools, such as an official membership badge to build patient trust, ensuring practices remain up-to-date and competitive in a growing industry.

You can earn up to 33.5 CME credits, approved by the American Academy of Family Physicians and accepted as AMA PRA Category 1 credits. Nursing boards also accept these credits as equivalent. Pre-symposium work is included to help you get the most from your experience. Physicians should claim credit based on their level of participation.
You will find over 40% of the time will be spent with an opportunity for hands-on training.
The course begins with a review of the anatomy and physiology of the skin, including an in-depth look at the epidermal layers. Understanding facial structure and musculature is emphasized to ensure safe and accurate cosmetic procedures. Trainees will also learn to identify skin tension lines and the cosmetic subunits of the face. The curriculum covers common cutaneous diseases, with a focus on recognizing the signs of skin cancer such as melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. This foundational knowledge is essential for safe aesthetic practice. Participants will explore today’s leading cosmetic injectable options, focusing on FDA-approved botulinum toxins for facial aesthetics—including Xeomin®, Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau®. You’ll receive detailed instruction on injection techniques, protocols, and guidelines. Patient selection, contraindications, and special cautions are thoroughly addressed. The course also features a hands-on patient mark-up exercise and an interactive injection workshop with live patients, providing practical experience under expert supervision.
Absolutely. Nurse Practitioners are welcome, but Botox is a prescription drug, so you must have prescribing authority in your state or collaborate with a physician. For more details, see our IAPAM blog post on practical tips for expanding your practice.
The IAPAM offers the exclusive Certified Aesthetic Provider™ (CAP) program, designed to meet insurance company and state board requirements for annual “board-certification” in aesthetic medicine. Earning this certification not only supports continued insurance coverage, but also allows you to demonstrate to patients that you stay current with your skills and training from a trusted international organization. The CAP program helps you save time by keeping you up to date with the latest trends and advancements in the industry.
CMEs are accepted as equivalent credits for physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Dentists should contact the ADA in their state to inquire about specific transferability of AAFP CMEs.
