Two annual certifications. One for aesthetics, one for weight management. Both designed to grow with your practice.
Not sure which is right for you? Call 1-866-211-6901
For physicians and nurse practitioners entering or growing an aesthetic practice. Covers Botox®, dermal fillers, cosmetic lasers, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and PRP — with a published standard of care and annual renewal to keep your credential current.
For providers looking to add GLP-1 medications and medically-supervised weight loss to their practice. Covers semaglutide, tirzepatide, patient adherence, lifestyle coaching, IV nutrition, and the business of running a weight management program.
Certification in aesthetic medicine or medical weight management is not legally mandated in most jurisdictions. But the absence of a requirement is not the same as the absence of a standard. Patients are doing more research before choosing a provider, state boards are paying closer attention to provider qualifications in non-surgical cosmetic procedures, and the clinical landscape in both specialties is changing faster than most continuing education programs can keep up with.
An annual certification does something a one-time course cannot: it creates a documented, recurring commitment to current practice. Every year you renew, you demonstrate that your training is not something you completed years ago and set aside.
Demonstrate due diligence with a credential that reflects current clinical standards and best practices.
New treatments, devices, and medications emerge every year. Annual renewal keeps your knowledge current with the market.
Know that your clinical skills and patient communication are grounded in up-to-date, evidence-based training.
Both certifications follow the same annual model and are listed on CertifiedMedicalProviders.com. The difference is the clinical focus.

IAPAM certifications are designed for licensed medical professionals who want to practice aesthetic medicine or medical weight management with a documented, credentialed foundation. Both programs are open to:
Looking to add aesthetics or weight management as a revenue stream, or formalize training they have already completed informally.
Expanding scope within their practice or opening an independent aesthetic or weight management clinic.
Working under physician supervision in a medspa or aesthetic clinic and seeking a credential that reflects their training. Note: scope of practice varies by state — confirm with your governing board.
Both programs are structured to serve providers at any stage. New providers build a clinical foundation; experienced providers formalize and update existing knowledge with current protocols.
These certifications do not grant legal authority to perform medical procedures. Always confirm scope of practice with your state or provincial governing board.
Both the CAP™ and CWMP™ certifications follow the same annual model. Here is what that looks like in practice:
Complete all required courses and assessments to earn your initial certification.
Your active certification is listed on CertifiedMedicalProviders.com. Use your CAP™ or CWMP™ designation in your marketing and patient communications.
Each year, renew your certification to maintain your active status, directory listing, and access to any new course content added to your program.
IAPAM has been training physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants in aesthetic medicine and medical weight management for over 20 years. More than 6,000 providers have completed IAPAM training. Here is what sets the programs apart:
In most jurisdictions, no — there is no legal requirement to hold a specific certification to offer these services within your scope of practice. However, certification demonstrates that your training is current, documented, and held to a published standard of care, which matters to patients, employers, and increasingly to state licensing boards reviewing provider qualifications.
A certificate is awarded upon completion of a course. A certification is a credential that requires ongoing maintenance — in IAPAM’s case, annual renewal. Both CAP™ and CWMP™ are certifications, not one-time certificates, which is why they carry more weight as a professional credential.
Yes. Many IAPAM providers hold both. The programs are complementary — CAP™ covers aesthetic medicine and CWMP™ covers medical weight management. Providers offering both service lines often pursue both certifications.
The CAP™ program includes 5 courses totaling approximately 20–25 hours of online self-study. The CWMP™ program includes 2 courses totaling approximately 10–12 hours. Both can be completed at your own pace with 12-month access from your purchase date.
Each year, you renew your certification to maintain your active status, directory listing, and access to any new course content added to your program. Renewal fees are lower than the initial certification cost. You can cancel auto-renewal at any time.
Yes. IAPAM courses are AAFP-reviewed and accepted as AMA PRA Category 1 credit™. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 credit toward the AMA Physician’s Recognition Award.
Online training provides the clinical knowledge foundation. Whether hands-on training is required depends on your state or provincial governing board and your prior clinical experience. IAPAM offers hands-on training at the Aesthetic Medicine Symposium in Scottsdale for providers who want supervised injection practice before seeing patients independently.
CertifiedMedicalProviders.com is a public directory of active CAP™ and CWMP™ certified providers. Patients use it to find and verify certified providers in their area. Your listing is included in your certification and renewal fee — there is no separate charge.
No. Completing IAPAM training and holding a CAP™ or CWMP™ certification does not grant legal authority to perform medical procedures. You must confirm scope of practice with your state or provincial governing board before offering any new service.
