What Are Facial Fillers?

One of the best ways to gain back a youthful looking appearance is by using facial filler injections.

Deterioration of facial skin is one of the most visible signs of aging.

New skin cells are continually created, but there are other substances within and underneath the skin that begin to decline as we age.

Collagen is one important element that decreases.

This decrease causes skin to begin to sag, and facial depressions and other issues will in time become more noticeable.

This is obviously a major concern to those who wish to remain as young looking as possible.

One of the best ways to gain back some of that lost youthful appearance is to have facial filler injections to specific areas of the face.

Common target areas include the lips, near the eyes, around the edges of the eyes, the cheeks, the chin, and even the earlobes.

These most common products utilize hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring compound in all organisms.

The acid is not taken from animals, and there is no chance of allergic reaction or rejection.

These products work by allowing extra water to be absorbed into the skin, and this has the intended effect of increased fullness.

Facial fillers can plump up areas that are appearing to be more sunken in, and the added volume will make one appear more attractive, and therefore gain confidence in their appearance.

This new found rejuvenation is known to have positive effects due to the increased self-esteem for recipients of these treatments.

Choosing the Right Fillers

When someone first consults with a clinic about dermal fillers, the skin of the particular client is examined.

Depending on the skin type and the specific issues that the client is experiencing, the appropriate dermal filler or fillers will be selected.

There are many brands and types of fillers, but a few of the more common kinds are Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Restylane Lift® (formally Perlane).

A dermatologist may choose to use one type of filler to enhance the lips, another type to fill in the cheeks, and another kind to fill out the chin.

A skilled practitioner will have the knowledge to select the appropriate filler for each target area, and will discuss the options, the procedure, and answer any questions that a patient may have.

A local anesthetic is used, and then the filler is injected into targeted areas of the face or neck.

During the procedure, the patient will likely feel a slight pain, similar to a pinching feeling at the injection site.

Typically, it only takes about 20 minutes for the entire process, and the patient can be on their way quickly.

What are the Side Effects?

There may be some slight side effects for up to a week after the injections.

These symptoms include some mild swelling and redness, and some mild sensitivity in the skin in the following few days after the injections is also possible.

It is recommended to stay out of direct sunlight immediately after the treatment and to avoid physical exertion for these reasons.

Facial fillers are utilized my many people around the world for a wide variety of facial issues, many of which are caused by aging.

If you have issues such as these, speak to a medical professional about which treatment options would benefit you most.
