Why Men are Getting more Aesthetic Procedures

Our external appearance plays an important role in the way society perceives us. For a long time, it was believed that cosmetic procedures were only sought after by women, but in the recent years there has been a change in this trend.

In fact, more and more individuals are now seeking aesthetic procedures. People magazine even had an article about the Rise of “Brotox” and that “In the last few years, there has been a surge of men seeking minimally invasive facial rejuvenation.”

But why exactly is this?

Well, there is no doubt that our society has become tremendously age-conscious, and the culture of how aged celebrities look so much younger than they are has caught on with the general public.

It may be shocking to hear that according to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there was over a 121% increase in the number of different cosmetic procedures performed on men in 2011 when compared to 1997.

According to the latest study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 400,000 more men have started requesting injections in the past 5 years. But age is not just the only reason.

Many men are seeking these procedures to appear better at work whether they are executives or in the public eye.

For example, individuals who are in their 40’s-60’s who are applying for new jobs may want to appear younger for their interviews.

Some people may have wanted to make changes to their appearance in the past but could not afford it, but now may have saved up enough to spend on procedures, which are significantly cheaper than many years ago.

Men feel an increase in pressure to maintain a more attractive and youthful look.

The common procedures that were performed on men include eyelid surgery, nose jobs and removal of fine lines and wrinkles with Botox® and dermal fillers.

The former seem to be top of the list, though minimally invasive procedures are becoming popular these days. Interestingly, there have been news reports of men seeking out buttock implants as well.

Some men may opt for liposuction procedures particularly if they have been on a weight loss regime and have lost a good amount of weight

It helps improve the appearance of the shape of the abdomen, and many men discover a newfound confidence after these procedures. Liposuction seems to be the most popular cosmetic procedures sought after by men.

The advantage of seeking cosmetic procedures is the fact that they are very affordable these days. In addition, they do not take too long to perform either – many procedures such as Botox® and dermal fillers only take an hour or even less, making it extremely convenient.

More and more centers that offer these procedures have popped up, making a trip to the cosmetic surgeon extremely convenient.
